Hispanic Civilization, Culture and Literature is a class that focuses on studying all three elements mentioned in the title of the course, while continuing Spanish immersion students study of grammar and the Spanish language. It is meant to be a course that will help prepare students to take the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam, especially helpful with the section relating to cultural comparison. The class starts out with the question “What is culture?” and asks students to define both the concept and their own personal “culture.” Next, students will study the cultural origins of Spanish culture and how those impact life in present day Spain. Then, our focus will move to the indigenous cultures of Latin America, 19th century revolutions and Latin American societies today. Class discussions will be an important part of this class and participation is expected entirely in Spanish.
